Club Promotion Tips by an Actual Club Promoter…

Welcome!

I made this website for one reason and one reason only: to help you become a club promoter.

The internet is great, but it’s also filled with a lot of false information. Especially when it comes to club promotion.

My buddy Dan and I at a club in Northern California.

First of all, let me introduce myself. My name is Carl Richardson, I’m 25, and live in San Diego, California.

As soon as I turned 21 I was all about going to the clubs (like most people) and quickly fell in love with the whole scene.

One night I happened to have gotten stood up by a girl and was just wandering around the club looking a little lonely. A   girl (who was pretty attractive) came up and we began to talk. Turns out she was a promoter at the club. At this point I  didn’t even know people got paid to do “club promotion” and what it involved.

Turns out though that she made some serious money doing it. About $700 a night three times a week (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday).

We kind of hit it off so the next day, Sunday, we went to get a cup of coffee. It was kind of a date. Anyway we really hit it off again, even without any liqor being involved, and the conversation switched over to her being in the club promoting business.

My job at the time was in IT. I hated it but my parents after graduating high school forced me into computer science at UC Berkley (where I finished in the BOTTOM three of my class) and with the economy being the way it is I couldn’t get another job even if I wanted to. Not to mention the fact that I had to work in cubicles with hundreds of other people which has to be the most de-motivating thing to do to a person.

Picture of my cubicles at work, all 202 of them.

Turns out she made roughly $8,000 a year doing this whole club promotion thing. Essentially she had a group of people, it started out just as close friends, and she tells them about new clubs opening up or about clubs running a special promotion (like two for one drinks or something).

She wasn’t a pushy salesman or anything like that. In fact she was the opposite. People wanted to hear from her because they wanted to go out and have a good time with friends.

After that coffee we began to date. After going steady for about two months I came home one day from work (she didn’t do much during Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) in a pretty bad mood. In my department of 200 people over 80 had just been laid off. I heard through the grapevine that another round of cuts was coming up in a few weeks and given how many of the people around me had been let go I didn’t feel to good.

After venting she convinced me to try doing a little club promoting, just on the side. That way if I was let go then I would have some extra income. I hesitated a bit but after she told me I could do it Friday and Saturday (not Thursday since I had work Friday morning) I reluctantly agreed.

Fast forward two months and I had got my biggest gig yet at a San Diego club that had just opened. I was being paid $1,300 for one night’s work and made an extra $700 for bringing in over 100 people (most of whom were friends and people I had met through being at so many clubs). I still wasn’t making as much as my girlfriend, but I had still made two grand in just one night!

Promoting a new club that had opened in San Diego

The next morning, a Sunday, I talked it over and decided to quit my job. I was making less at this point in my IT job than I was in my club promotion job and it just seemed to make sense. It was a leap of faith without a doubt but it’s worked out phenomenally.

The thing about clubs is that they never go out of style. When the economy is down people tend to tighten their spending, but not when it comes to nightlife. Nighttime and clubbing is the time to let loose, to be yourself, to not care about your problems. For me I began going to clubs more to forget about my crummy nine to five job.

I’m going to try and update this blog as often as possible. If you have any questions be sure to let me know. But until next time if you’re interested in becoming a club promoter, even for a little side money, this is a pretty good website that you should check out.

Later,

Carl

P.S – No matter what you’re doing now remember that it can always be better if you make the effort! There were many days I had to keep remembering that myself.
